NitDroid might always remain a project which is rather dedicated to experimental users. But it's very impressive to see what the N9 is able to do and why not rather have two platforms on one phone than buying two different devices? The recent Alpha-version shows that the port was successful. Many drivers for the N9 were found and basic tasks are already possible. The video below how Android works actually pretty well and fast.

In case you can't wait to try out NITDroid on your N9... please still wait! If you have a separate device and knowledge to try such things out: More informations are available for you at NITDroid Forum with various instructions and a checklist of working features.
NITDroid for Nokia N9 is still far away from a final version or even an usable public release. Nice to see though that the N9 is able to run two amazing platforms at once with the given hardware. Those news will certainly push the popularity of N9 and we will keep an eye on Android for N9.
An author of MyNokiaBlog even managed to install for the first time three different operation systems on Nokia N9: MeeGo, and Android and Nemo (Linux based operation system based on Mer OS). More about that here.
Also have a look at the new Angry Birds Space played on a Nokia N9 with Android - this video shows well, how good this Alpha-version of NITDroid already runs:

Meego is much better than Android. But this is good news!
ReplyDeleteoooh .. but is that NITdroid will come with Android Market as well????
ReplyDeleteWhat I heard, yes. This is just an Alpha-version (so far away from final release). In case they complete this project, you will have a fully working Android OS on the N9. NITDroid is just the name for the port to the N9 (or previously phones like N900).
Deletebtw, I updated the post with a video showing Angry Birds Space on N9 (NITDroid)
Deletewhile i'm not a big fan for Android but the best this is their Market ... a lot of working apps.
Deletei think so :)
ReplyDeletecan we install cracked apk on nitroid alpha now?
ReplyDeleteSorry, no comment to that post. We don't support usage of cracked software. Furthermore we focus mainly on MeeGo Harmattan - once NITDroid will work properly on N9 there might be more about Android.
DeleteOMG...
ReplyDeleteNow is angry-B Space...!!!
Good Job
this site and others should not be promoting nitdroid. this is a huge setback for development and all this work should have been on bringing apps not os to the n9. we have known all along there was a way to port android apps to meego but no work has been done to accomplish this. instead time has been wasted on porting another OS instead which in my opinion is a step back not forward.
ReplyDeletenow i will have to look forward to app releases when i search n9 daily that say n9(nitroid). this is bullshit and should be stopped immediately. the fault lies 100% on sites like this that do not discriminate news items when there is little to no value in them being here.
Thank your for your comment. We actually thought about, if we should write about NITDroid or not. But since our website is called "AllBoutN9" and not "AllBoutMeego" we felt it would be a part of the N9. We don't promote Android in any way and are 100% Meego-fans - being convinced that Meego is the better system. So don't worry, our website won't be flooded with that topic. If you would have taken a proper look at our website, you would see that everything else is purely about the N9 with Meego Harmattan.
DeleteThis topic has been so present everywhere, because many Android users are interested to see such a port, see it as a "promotion" for the N9, since it makes this phone even more interesting to a bigger amount of people.
So enjoy your N9 and ignore the message that Android can be ported to it :)
can we get android now in n9?
Deleteif yes so tell me the complete process of android in n9............please desperately waiting for android in my n9.
Hi, you should find all setup informations within the link given in the article above. There is no final release yet NITDroid and it is not recommended to install it if you are not sure how to reset/re-flash your phone.
DeleteI've been paying very close attention to posts like this one and others regarding android on the N9. Having come from ICS with HTC sensation, I was very excited to have the function of android on the sleek and sexy N9.
ReplyDeleteHowever, now that I've received my N9 in the mail; I've come to love MeeGo very much. The multitasking alone trumps every other OS for phones currently but I found the Nokia Shop to be surprisingly lacking.
This is why I think it would be best to just have a fourth home screen for widgets, and be able to somehow convert android apps to be useable on MeeGo. If this becomes possible, there wouldn't be a phone to come close to the N9 for a very long time. (Perhaps until Nokia wise up and up the processor and compatibility)
Great comment! Thank you. Nokia Store is lacking and it's quiet difficult to find the good apps there. As you can see on our newest post (June 17th) there might be a possibility to have Android apps on N9 without installing Android OS.
Deleteso if i get this android installed in m N9, will i be able to use the sim operations such as calling and textin or is it just the apps we can use,,..??
ReplyDeletei cannot install android games on my nokia 9, why ?
ReplyDeleteIf I get the Android ICS OS, will I be able to use WhatsApp instead of the Wazapp that nokia n9 users get?
ReplyDeletehow to remove android os, from nokia n9 ?
ReplyDeleteAndroid OS can only be fully removed by re-flashing your device (we have a guide on our website for OSX users - tutorial for Windows users will be available soon). I suggest to ask for help in the NITdroid forum. Unfortunately we can't give any advice to Android OS related questions.
DeleteI would imagine that if you could port Android to a Meego device, then the reverse may be possible. I don't have an N9, I wanted to buy one but according to its review on GSM arena, it's a sort of bitter-sweet story. Brilliant OS but abandoned by its maker. I ended up buying a Galaxy S2. I now want to buy the Lumia 820. What I'd like to fiddle with is the possibility of enjoying a Meego port to the S2. I imagine the OS in all its amazing glory would still work even with Android hardware keys (since it's an all-touch OS). Or is this question best posed to the guys at NITDroid?
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for your comment. Good thinking but unfortunately there are certain restrictions. Android is an open-source system and it's code can be officially downloaded. This makes it possible to port Android to other devices or run it on virtual machines on your desktop computer. Nokia's "MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan", the system running on N9, isn't open-source. Therefore there's no legal possibility to install that OS somewhere else other than N9 and N950.
ReplyDeleteThe original MeeGo by Linux Foundation was open-source but isn't the same as what we know from Nokia. MeeGo derivates like "Mer" or the very new "Sailfish OS" by Jolla are open-source as well and could be ported to various devices.
So MeeGo Harmattan isn't possible on a Galaxy S2.
